A woman’s journey to citizenship

Andrea Moore, of Navarre, takes the oath to support and defend the United States during a Sept. 14 naturalization ceremony held in Pensacola. Moore is originally from Germany.

Andrea Moore came to the United States to earn her master’s degree at University Maryland College Park and ended up staying and becoming a U.S. citizen, albeit 25 years later.

“Now I’m not the oddball of the family,” said Moore with a laugh.

Moore came from her native Germany courtesy of a scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Services.

“It is a German government entity that provides education opportunities like the Fulbright Scholarship,” she said.

She had already earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Erlangen in English and political science and desired to study abroad.
