The Gulf Breeze Zoo continued its expansion of exhibits with the recent clandestine arrival of two South African white rhinos.
The sisters, currently called 31 and 87, made the lengthy journey from South Africa to join the other animals that make their home at the zoo. Their arrival was long anticipated and eagerly awaited by staff and Zoo Director Kayte Wanko.
The rhinos will have their own special coming out party when the zoo hosts Rhino Day on Sept. 17. Wanko said that National Rhino Day is on Sept. 24 but that “we couldn’t wait that long” to show off the new animals.
“This is just the beginning,” of the rhino exhibit at the zoo, said Wanko, “We like to do things big and bold here.”
