UPA to tackle Garcon Point scenery first

After receiving the blessing of the Santa Rosa County Board of Commissioners, members of the United Peninsular Association are moving forward with their plans to beautify sections of U.S. Highway 98 and East Bay Boulevard.

Their first project is to spruce up the intersection of U.S. 98 and Garcon Point Bridge.

"The businesses at the Garcon Point interchange are extremely supportive and have pledged donations to see it improved," Don Richards, president of UPA, told the organization's members at its monthly meeting Sept. 29. "I am working with the City of Gulf Breeze to get SSRUS (South Santa Rosa Utility System) to put in a grey-water tap in under U.S. 98 and to come up on the median on both sides. There's no sense in planting a tree and then a year later have it die because there's no water."
