A car reported to have a pelican statue hanging out the window was stopped by a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office patrol while driving through Navarre on Hwy 98 on Monday. The stop was made after callers reported the sighting to Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office dispatch.
A Santa Rosa deputy located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver and three passengers. When asked about the pelican statue, the driver stated he knew nothing about the statue. Dispatch contacted Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and was informed the pelican was just stolen from Pensacola Beach from in front of the Sand Shaker Bar. The four occupants of the vehicle were arrested and transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail. Each were issued a $7,500 bond. The pelican was subsequently returned to the owner.
