Ed Gray of Gulf Breeze will seek to fill former Representative Clay Ford’s District 2 seat. Ford passed away March 18.
“I have always respected Clay Ford and his representation of the entire district,” Gray said. “He left a big void. He and I were very close and had a mutual respect for each other and I’m going to miss him.”
Gray decided to seek the seat when he saw the other people interested in running. Gray said there was only one person that had the experience to serve and that was Lois Benton, ECUA board of director member, former state legislator and former Pensacola City Councilwoman.
“Lois has a long background in serving people. She would have been a good candidate but she decided she wasn’t going to run and she expressed to me to consider running, as well as other people,” Gray said. “When all was said and done, it felt like the right thing to do to serve the district and the whole area.”
Gray is awaiting the special election date to be announced and then he will file as a candidate. Gray has lived in the Gulf Breeze area since 1963. He served as the City of Gulf Breeze mayor from 1984-1992 and was a school board member from 2002-2010. He is currently the executive director of Gulf Breeze Financial Services.
