Navarre Pier expansion moves forward

Santa Rosa County commissioners are expected to approve plans to expand the deck at the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier despite lingering questions surrounding contracts and crime at the $8-million landmark.

The group charged with managing the pier, an entity known as The Pier, Inc., which is owned and operated by Navarre resident Dorothy Slye and her brother, Everett “Junior”  Ratliff, have asked that the county build the proposed expansion, even though some, including residents of the upscale condominiums located directly next door to the site, contend that issues like noise and crime may only be amplified by the proposal.
