Navarre Beach Pier: Hook, line and stinker?

Though Santa Rosa County commissioners have approved a motion to consider expanding the deck that surrounds the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier, controversy about crime remains a hot-button issue for county officials and residents alike.

Now, Navarre Press has learned that contracts originally drafted to finalize an agreement to manage and operate the pier are also at issue, causing confusion for the very lawmakers who approved the documents.

At a county commission meeting Oct. 11, Dorothy Slye, who, together with her brother, Everett “Junior” Ratliff, are partners in The Pier, Inc., the group charged with management of the county-owned pier, asked the commission to approve enlarging the existing deck by about 1,700 square feet to the south, behind the pier store and restrooms.
