Teachers’ union threatens lawsuit over social media policy

Santa Rosa County teachers are up in arms over what they claim is an overly restrictive policy governing educators’ use of technology, and specifically social media websites, such as Facebook.

The Santa Rosa Professional Educators, the union that represents Santa Rosa County teachers and staff, had initially planned to file a lawsuit against the district, citing what they said were unfair labor practices.

Once the district caught wind of their proposed lawsuit, union president Rhoda Chavers said, they all agreed to  “come to the table”  to resolve the issue.

“The district has agreed to bargain on this issue,” said Chavers.  “Because of that, the (proposed) lawsuit is now on hold.”
