Incorporation Update: Tracey Terry

It's hard to believe that more than a week has passed since we met to discuss possible incorporation options.

Because there is so much interest, and a lot of questions regarding what will be done next...and when?....we are sending out this quick re-cap of what's going on, what is next, and how you can stay involved and informed.  Aug. 4: Chamber Hosts Meeting  A general information meeting was hosted by the Chamber for our membership.  After much exposure in the local press (TV and newspapers) more than 60 Navarre citizens showed up in addition to our members who had RSVP'd for the event.  Needless to say we had a full house, and a great discussion.  The only objective of that meeting was to educate people on what the Chamber has done so far (invest in study that determined we are legislatively eligible) and gain opinions and insight from the membership on why we should or should not incorporate, and if they wanted the Chamber to host a task force to look into Phase II of the study (which would involve public Input, surveys, etc.). Aug. 14: "Informal" Survey   An informal survey will be e-mailed to those who have expressed an interest (and their e-mail addresses) in staying informed on the efforts. As soon as we are able to get a link posted to our website (hopefully no later than Monday, August 17th) it will also be posted there for access by anyone who wants to participate. The format of the survey will be such that you can forward it to your contacts or post on your site if you want to-the more information we gather the better!  Also, survey results will be automated in a report by the web-based system, and available for anyone to review.  The report will not show who the participants were by name or other identifying data, but rather the overall data summary as well as "other comments" added by the participant. It should be noted that this survey's only purpose is to allow the Chamber board some insight (based on the statistics provided in the survey results) as to whether or not it's worth pursuing a formal task force, and to get a head start on what the perceptions are.  If Phase II is pursued, we would have professionals administer a more formal survey that would be used to decide whether to put the issue to a vote or not.Aug. 26: Chamber VoteThe Chamber Board of Directors will vote whether or not to form the official task force, and outline what level of oversight/involvement the Chamber would have.  If the vote is yes, we move forward tentatively, as outlined below:September: Select Task Force Members The current plan for the task force would be to put out a "call for volunteers" or nominations of those who would be a good fit to serve on the task force.  The executive board would then select 10-15 members to get started.  It is important to note that this committee will not consist of the Chamber's board members and staff, but rather people from all walks of Navarre; someone who is a life-long resident, one who has just moved here, a business owner and a citizen, some who are currently "for" and  some who are currently "against", men/women, young/old, etc.  Most importantly, one of overriding criteria for the selection will be choosing people who are open-minded, fact-seekers whose role will not be to force their opinions on the group but rather to help gather and analyze the data.   Task Force Taskings The projected general tasks will include:- Gathering Facts & Data - Finding sources of revenue to fund Phase II - Hosting "Town Hall" meetings with various guest speakers offering insight or expertise and allowing for structured Q&A from the attendees. - Recommend prospective experts/firms to be hired for execution of various aspect of Phase II. - Act as a working liaison group between the Chamber Board of Directors, the hired experts, and the community.  A lot of people have stopped by the Chamber to express their views on the subject, and while we value the input, we ask that you put your feedback in writing or attend a meeting scheduled for this purpose.  The staff will not be able to entertain visitors who arrive without an appointment solely for this purpose.  Thank you!Other than that, check your e-mails and we will keep you posted as we move along. Chamber members will automatically get these updates, regardless of their attendance at the meetings. Comments?  Questions?  Send them to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
