Science station receives IMPACT grant

The Navarre Beach Marine Science Station received $108,200 in grant money Sunday, Oct. 16, from IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area’s 2016 grants.

The grant will go toward the Coastal Conservation Corp’s purchase and outfitting of the 24-foot traveling display called the Discovery Depot.

Station Director Charlene Mauro said the Discovery Depot could be driven to events throughout the Gulf coast to educate the public on conservation of area oceans.

“We get a lot of requests from schools that can’t travel because of the bus schedule,” she said. “It allows us to reach kids in the northern end and also to promote the discovery center at festivals. It’s another way to get our name out there.”
