Freese never lacks intensity on the volleyball court

Whether it’s the pump of a fist, a high-five exchange with a teammate or jumping up and down and cheering from the bench, Shelby Freese doesn’t hide her emotions on the volleyball court.

She loves energizing her teammates during timeouts and she is full of excitement when she or one of her teammates makes a big play. To say the former Navarre volleyball standout is having fun playing the game is an understatement.

In fact, even in a postgame interview last Wednesday night at Hartsell Arena after Gulf Coast State swept Pensacola State on the road for its fourth consecutive win, Freese was still having trouble toning down her intensity level.

Keep in mind the match had been over for at least 15 minutes.

“I’m so hyped right now,” Freese said. “I just love the intensity of playing college volleyball. It’s crazy. And being on a winning team is awesome.”

The win was the 16th of the year for the Commodores. They have lost only six games. Freese has been instrumental to the success and said her performance against the Pirates was her best of the year.

“I got moved to the right side when I got here and it’s been a pretty big adjustment for me,” Freese said. “But I just played the best game of my life on the right side. I had never played right side until this year.”
