Monarch Madness highlights end of year for butterfly house

Jean Berger sat at a chair on a sun-splashed Friday morning holding up a display of photos of butterflies. Children gathered around her, their eagerness to learn all about an insect so vital to the health of the environment very evident.

“They find it very exciting and just absorb the information,” said Berger, a volunteer for the Panhandle Butterfly House in Navarre. “It’s neat to see how interested they are in butterflies.”

The educational moment Berger was a part of Friday took place at the Monarch Madness Butterfly Festival. The parking lot at Navarre Park was full and many parked at locations next door or across the street from the butterfly house to attend the two-day festival.
