Color run raises funds for HNIS school playground

Holley Navarre Intermediate School raised thousands of dollars Saturday, Oct. 1 at the school’s first-ever HNIS Color Run.

Though the event fell short of their goal Assistant Principal Tina Howard said the nearly $30,000 was a great start.

It’s a really good start toward a playground, but we are going to have to do some fundraisers,” she said. “All that money is really brought back into the school. We felt like we had a very successful event with serious runners as well as the color run.”

Parent Teacher Organization President Keri Pitzer said getting the playground updated is important because it is not ADA compliant yet.

“Not only is the size an issue, but it’s also that we want every student to be able to access it,” she said.

The event proceeds were a big step toward making that happen she said and she indicated they will likely hold the event again next year.
