Healthy eating for kiddos

It’s a time honored struggle: getting children to eat healthy. There is some comfort in knowing that the struggle has been ongoing for generations, yes the struggle IS real. Yet, what is not so comforting is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s report that childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents over the last 30 years.

Much research has been conducted to provide parents with answers on how to get their children eating healthier.

Tip #1 Give them control.

As kids grow out of perfect angel baby-hood they develop little personalities. For better or worse, many see the food they put in their mouths as a wonderful opportunity to exercise their newfound independence.

Instead of fighting against that stubbornness, which often leads to a lot of tears and frustration, a better strategy might be to embrace it. Embrace their need to assert their independence. Try just letting them eat the one vegetable they like, at least until they are older and you’re more able to reason with them.
