A look at how the state-ranked teams fared over the week

It turned out to be a stunning weekend for the No. 1 team in 6A. Reigning state champ Miami Central was knocked off by No. 10 Miami Carol City 34-7.

Seventh-ranked Navarre was a winner as well, topping Pace 42-28 in the District 2-6A opener for both teams. The Raiders took advantage of trick plays by running backs Michael Carter and Dante Wright. Both threw touchdown passes to Jordan Williams. Caine Adamson rushed for a pair of touchdowns and threw a scoring strike to Chandler Cooper as the Raiders ran their regular-season win streak to 17 games.

The only team in the top 10 that didn’t play was Miami Northwestern. The only other No. 1 team to lose over the weekend was St. Thomas Aquinas in 7A. The Raiders traveled to Las Vegas to take on powerhouse Bishop Gorman and fell 25-24 in triple overtime.
