Raiders move up a spot in latest AP poll

Navarre’s football team moved up to No. 7 in this week’s 6A Associated Press state football poll. The Raiders (3-0), ranked eighth a week ago, kept their perfect record intact this past week with a 34-21 come-from-behind win over Choctaw at Joe Etheredge Stadium.

Navarre trailed 21-14 at halftime but scored three touchdowns in the second half while the defense stepped up and did not allow a point in the final two quarters.

The win was the 15th consecutive for Navarre in regular season action. The streak dates back to 2014.

Michael Carter scored three times in the win and pushed his touchdown total to 12 on the season. He has scored 11 of those TDs on the ground. Dante Wright is coming off his best game as a receiver after catching seven passes for more than 100 yards and a TD reception.

The Raiders are led defensively by Bo Hering, who has come through with 22.5 tackles on the season. Josh Carter has tallied 20 tackles and Tyson Brown has 17.5 tackles.

Navarre is back at home this week as it plays host to Fort Walton Beach in a 7:30 p.m. game at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

Defending state champion Miami Central (4-0) remains No. 1 in the state in 6A and received all 16 first-place votes.

Pine Forest (3-1) was the lone team to drop in the poll after suffering a stunning 21-14 loss to Gulf Breeze. The Eagles went from sixth to 10th this week. The Dolphins, 4-0 for the first time in school history, received two votes.

Niceville jumps from 10th to ninth this week and is 4-0 as well.
