Wright makes several big catches in Raiders’ win over Indians

Dante Wright fumbled the football away early in the second quarter of Friday night’s game against Choctaw. That one mistake could have rattled the confidence of the sophomore wide receiver who is in his first year of varsity football at Navarre.

By the end of the night, with the Navarre Raiders celebrating their latest victory, a 34-21 win over the Indians at Joe Etheredge Stadium, the fumble had long been forgotten.

Wright moved past it in a hurry and turned in his best performance of the season, making seven catches for 107 yards, his biggest reception of course coming in the third quarter when he turned up the jets and hustled to make a diving catch in the end zone on a 25-yard throw from Caine Adamson.

The highlight tied the score at 21-21 and helped turn the momentum in favor of the Raiders once and for all.

“It felt good to tie the game. It was real exciting,” Wright said. “I wasn’t sure if I could get it, but once I got past the defender, I knew I could make the play.”

Wright’s athleticism was evident time and again and the three-sport athlete came up with big catches when it seemed to matter most.

“Dante had a big night,” Navarre head coach Jay Walls said. “He came up with that great catch for a touchdown and had several other big catches and runs. He was really good.”
