FLORIDA PASTOR AMONG 22 ARRESTED IN UNDERCOVER SEX STING

Authorities say David Donald Hoppenjan was arrested during “Operation Undertow,” which took place earlier this month. Pensacola police said during a news conference about the multi-agency sting that undercover agents posed as teenagers on websites and the suspects attempted to meet the “teens” for sex. The arrest report said Hoppenjan traveled to two locations to meet a 14-year-old boy.

Miami Beach police say the Mercedes-Benz SUV was hit with gunshots multiple times about 7 a.m. Friday on the valet ramp outside the upscale Fontainebleau Hotel. No one was injured.

FLORIDA’S GOVERNOR AUTHORIZES $10M MORE FOR ZIKA RESPONSE

According to a statement Friday from Gov. Rick Scott’s office, the money will go to mosquito control, enhanced laboratory capacity and Zika kits from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Scott used his emergency powers in June to authorize $26.2 million for Zika response.

Democratic committee pulls ad time in Florida Senate race

The committee on Friday canceled ads it had reserved in Florida for the week of Oct. 4. It previously cancelled ads reserved in September. That’s bad news for Murphy, who is hoping to unseat Republican Sen. Marco Rubio.

FLORIDA UNEMPLOYMENT AT 4.7 PERCENT FOR 4TH STRAIGHT MONTH

The state Department of Economic Opportunity reported Friday that there were 454,000 unemployed Floridians out of a workforce of 9.7 million people. Florida remains below the national unemployment rate of 4.9 percent. Overall, Florida has gained 259,800 jobs in the last year.
