Jung eager and ready to compete on world stage

When Andreas Jung first watched an Ironman competition a few years ago he still wasn’t sure if it was something he would one day do.

Sure, he had already competed in his first triathlon a year earlier but getting involved in an Ironman meant taking his training and physical and mental toughness to an entirely different level.

“People would ask if I was going to do an Ironman but I said they are crazy,” Jung said. “It’s not good for your knees. It wasn’t for me, but when I saw it live, it got me completely hooked.”

Jung, who lives in Germany but is in Navarre this month visiting family, not only got hooked on it, he turned out to be one of the best, punching a ticket to the World Championship in Hawaii this October.

He qualified by earning one of four spots up for grabs in his age group (25-29) at the Ironman event this past July in Frankfurt. The 29 year old finished just a minute and 10 seconds ahead of the fifth-place competitor.
