REPORT: WOMAN MADE BOMB THREAT TO HALT MAN’S URINE TEST

Winter Haven police say 31-year-old Deniz Martinez called 911 on Tuesday, saying a man outside the office was going to “blow the building up.” Investigators determined the cellphone number belonged to Martinez, who drove 38-year-old boyfriend Jason Drake to the office earlier Tuesday. Officials say he wasn’t able to provide the urine sample and was required to stay there until he submitted a sufficient sample.

PROBE: MIAMI-DADE SCHOOLS CHIEF MAY HAVE VIOLATED GIFT LAW

The Florida Commission on Ethics announced Wednesday that it found probable cause that Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho broke the law because he accepted tickets and other gifts that were worth more than $100. Carvalho also did not initially disclose the gifts.

ORLANDO OFFICER CONVICTED OF KNEEING MAN IN CELL

Jurors deliberated for an hour and a half Wednesday before returning the guilty verdict for 32-year-old Peter Delio. His sentencing was set for Nov. 9. Delio’s defense attorney, David Bigney, says he was worried Delio wouldn’t get a fair trial, given the public’s current attitude toward police officers.

LEGAL BATTLE OVER VOUCHERS HEADED TO FLORIDA SUPREME COURT

The Florida Education Association on Wednesday appealed an August decision to throw out the lawsuit that the union and others had filed against a program used by more than 90,000 school children. The 1st District Court of Appeal ruled that the union had no legal standing to challenge the program that is also known as the tax credit scholarship program.

POLICE SAY 1 OF 3 VICTIMS IN FLORIDA SLAYING WAS BOUND

Lauderhill police Lt. Greg Solowsky said Tuesday that 42-year-old Dwight Brown, his 50-year-old girlfriend Lisa Foreman and his 21-year-old son Denzel Brown were all shot multiple times. He wouldn’t say which victim was bound. He said the slaying doesn’t appear to be a random event but declined to release specific details, saying investigators want to make sure any witnesses who provide key information didn’t learn it from the media.
