Charges are pending regarding a crash on Interstate 10 that claimed the life of a Milton woman Sunday, Sept. 11.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Shirley Owings, 65, was driving a Mercedes-Benz westbound in the outside lane of the interstate when the front of a Toyota 4 Runner struck the back end of her vehicle.
Fort Walton Beach resident Patrick Harrington, 32, was driving the Toyota that struck Owings’ vehicle.
Owings car was sent into the woods on the north side of the road. Harrington’s vehicle overturned into the median on the opposite side of the road.
Owings was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, but did not survive. Harrington sustained minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.
The crash occurred at the 35 mile marker in Santa Rosa County. Total damages to the vehicles are estimated at $30,000.
Charges are pending as Florida Highway Patrol investigates the crash. The report said alcohol was not involved in the incident.
