Johnson secures sheriff’s office

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Republican nominee Bob Johnson is now unopposed after write-in candidate Chuck Miller dropped out of the race Sept. 7.

In his letter of withdrawal to the Santa Rosa elections office, Miller said he would be unable to fulfill the needs of the office due to travel obligations associated with ministry. Johnson will take office Jan. 3.

Miller was not alone, as write-in candidate for District 1 County Commissioner Caleb Boudreaux also withdrew from the race on Sept. 1 leaving Republican nominee Sam Parker unopposed for the office.

Previous commissioner Jayer Williamson vacated the seat to pursue the District 3 State Representative position, an election he won.

“Any candidate can drop out at any time after they qualify. They just have to notify us in writing,” Supervisor of Elections Tappie Villane said.

The general election to decide the other offices will be held Nov. 8.
