REP. BROWN’S DEFENSE TEAM ALLOWED TO WITHDRAW IN FRAUD CASE

U.S. Magistrate James Klindt on Tuesday allowed attorneys Mark NeJame and David Haas to leave the case. They said in a court filing that hostility and distrust permeated their meetings. She is due back in court Sept. 7 for a follow-up. Federal prosecutors want Brown’s representation settled. She’s had three sets of lawyers.

AUTOPSY: BOY-BAND PROMOTER DIED FROM HEART INFECTION

A report from the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner released Tuesday shows that Lou Pearlman got the infection after getting a heart valve replaced. The report says the 62-year-old Pearlman had suffered from a condition in which the heart valve has trouble opening fully. Pearlman died Friday at a federal prison in South Florida where he was serving a 25-year sentence for a massive Ponzi scheme.

REPORT: MAN KEEPS $121,000 IN AMAZON GOODS HE WAS TO DELIVER

An arrest report from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office says 36-year-old Julio Hernandez was arrested Friday on theft and extortion charges. The sheriff’s office last month began investigating the theft of thousands of Amazon orders that were supposed to be driven from a distribution center in Ruskin, Florida, to Fort Worth, Texas.

10,000 HOMES, BUSINESSES HAD NO POWER AFTER SUBSTATION FIRE

A massive blaze knocked out the Miami Springs facility Tuesday afternoon, closing off roads in the area. FPL says power was restored to most of their customers within an hour. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue got the blaze under control and reported no injuries.

TROPICAL WAVE FORMS IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Tuesday that the wave has an elongated and poorly defined circulation. Satellite imagery indicates that the associated shower and thunderstorm activity remains disorganized. The storm is moving west-northwestward at about 15 mph (24 kph) near the northern Leeward Islands and the Greater Antilles. The storm could strengthen later this week as it nears the southeastern and central Bahamas.
