Gulf Breeze struggles to balance budget

Find me the money.

That’s what City of Gulf Breeze council members are saying to department heads and their accountant as they try to escape a pool of red ink welling up in the budget for next year.

Although the municipality of about 6,000 residents boasts an affluent image with average housing values topping $240,000– the highest of any community in Santa Rosa County, according to Zillow real estate research–that isn’t indicative of Gulf Breeze’s financial condition.

The five-member panel will meet next Saturday for the third-straight week to again pore through a stack of projected revenues and expenses in which they are drilling down to details such as whether new lockers for the firehouse are really needed.
