POLICE FATALLY SHOOT FLORIDA MAN DURING DOMESTIC CALL

Palm Bay police Lt. Mike Bandish says a woman told 911 dispatchers Tuesday night that her husband was cutting himself and threatening to shoot her. Bandish says the woman barricaded herself in a bathroom while police were on their way to the home in Palm Bay, which is near Melbourne on Florida’s Atlantic coast. She screamed into the phone that her husband was breaking down the door.

SMALL PLANE CRASHES OFF FLORIDA COAST, KILLS LOUISIANA MAN

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says on social media that 63-year old Al Habetz’s twin engine eight-seat Cessna went down Tuesday night near Destin. Officials don’t think anyone else was onboard. Officials began to search the water shortly after receiving reports about the crash. The sheriff’s office says the U.S. Coast Guard recovered Habetz’s body.

FLORIDA QUIETLY LAUNCHED NEW PROBE INTO TROUBLED SCHOOL

State Attorney Glenn Hess in late May concluded there wasn’t any way to prosecute any alleged crimes because either there was not enough evidence or that too much time had passed to charge anyone. The Associated Press on Wednesday obtained a copy of Hess’s letter explaining to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement why the cases could not move forward.

FLORIDA DRIVE-BY SHOOTING SUSPECT ARRESTED IN GEORGIA

Miami-Dade police report in a news release that 32-year-old Antwon Lamar Fair was arrested Wednesday in Savannah. It wasn’t clear if he was immediately charged, but police had previously released a flyer saying Fair was wanted in connection to a triple murder.

WOMAN CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED MANSLAUGHTER IN BABY’S DEATH

Jodi LeAnn Alexander was booked into jail Monday. Marion County Sheriff’s Det. J. Lightle says deputies went to the motel March 8 after Alexander’s friend found the baby’s body. An autopsy found the baby was born alive but bled to death because of a torn umbilical cord. She told investigators she the baby wasn’t breathing when she was born.
