Help your dog beat the heat

It’s the beginning of August, historically Navarre’s hottest month and dog owners are looking for places to exercise their pets without overheating them.  However, with ordinances set forth by Santa Rosa County, the beach is not an option.

As part of the animal control ordinance, Section 4-37 states:

  • Animals are prohibited from public places in Santa Rosa County such as airports, hotels, restaurants, theaters, public conveyances, grocery stores, or other establishments serving food, beverages, or staple foods…This section shall not apply to animals trained to assist the blind, provided; such animal is in the company of such blind person.
  • It is unlawful for the owner of an animal to allow his animal in public places of Santa Rosa County such as school grounds, public parks, beaches and playgrounds.

On the other hand, if you are willing to drive to take your dog to a dog-friendly beach, Pensacola has a few areas that welcome your pooch.  According to the Visit Pensacola website, your dog can cool off at the Bayview Dog Park and Beach in the East Hill neighborhood overlooking Bayou Texar.  Dogs can run free without a leash and have beach access.  Wash stations are even provided.
