Shred-a-thon prevents identity theft

Navarre residents brought boxes of financial documents, medical records, receipts, pay stubs and more to be shredded  for free by an industrial shredder at Santa Rosa County’s first Shred-a-thon Friday, July 22, at the Santa Rosa County Annex. Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Rich Aloy said it’s important to shred any documents containing personal information to avoid identity theft. “Identity theft can financially destroy you, and it is very difficult once started to get rid of it,” he said. “They can open up credit cards under your name or apply for loans. It can wreak havoc for years.”
