SHELL TO TRIM JOBS IN DEEP WATERS OF THE GULF OF MEXICO

Kimberly Windon, a Shell spokeswoman, says the company determined its staffing levels were higher than other operators’. The cuts include both contractors and Shell employees. The company said Thursday that the cuts are part of 2,200 jobs it’s trimming globally. The company says it will transfer Gulf workers to other locations when possible.

OFFICIAL: PLANE EVACUATED IN FLORIDA, REPORTED POSSIBLE LEAK

Palm Beach International Airport spokeswoman Casandra Davis says the American Airlines plane was set to head out to the runway Thursday afternoon when crewmembers called in a possible leak. Davis says the 138 passengers and crewmembers were evacuated to the tarmac, and that 17 people were taken to hospitals with symptoms that included burning eyes, itchy skin, and difficulty breathing. The other passengers were returned to the terminal.

POLICE: MAN CRASHES BOAT OF HUNTER WHO KILLED CECIL THE LION

A police report says 26-year-old Andrew Derwin of Marco Island was arrested Tuesday on a felony charge of grand theft and remains held. Authorities say Derwin took Walter Palmer’s $61,175 boat from his vacation home Sunday and later crashed it. Derwin’s passenger, Nicolas Stolinas, was seriously injured, officials say.

1 ADULT, 1 CHILD KILLED IN FIRE AT MOBILE HOME NEAR TAMPA

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews were called to the home around 11 p.m. Wednesday. A sheriff’s office news release says crews quickly extinguished the fire and found the victims inside the home. Officials say a deputy was treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns to his hands. He was treated and released at a hospital.

WIFE OF MAN ACCUSED OF FAKING DEATH FACES FEDERAL CHARGES

Daphne Simpson was named Wednesday in a one-count court filing describing her role in a conspiracy to fake Jose Lantigua’s death and collect millions from a string of life insurance companies. According to authorities and insurance companies, Lantigua faked his own death in Venezuela in 2013 so the family could claim millions in life insurance payments.
