DOCUMENTS: PULSE GUNMAN REPEATEDLY TAUNTED FOR BEING MUSLIM

Records released Monday by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office show Mateen claimed he was regularly called derogatory epithets for being Muslim by deputies and others at the St. Lucie Courthouse, where he worked as a contract guard. In response to the taunting, he told co-workers he had ties to the Boston Marathon bombing suspects and the Fort Hood shooter.

LAWYER: HOSPITAL SHOOTER IS INCOMPETENT TO STAND TRIAL

Harley Gutin is an attorney for 29-year-old David Owens. He said Monday that his client is incompetent to stand trial. Titusville, Florida, police say Owens entered Parrish Medical Center early Sunday and fatally shot 88-year-old patient Cynthia Zingsheim and employee Carrie Rouzer, who was sitting in Zingsheim’s room. Owens has been charged with two counts of murder and is being held at the county jail.

2 FLORIDA PLAYERS ARRESTED, FACE CHARGES FOR SHOOTING BB GUN

Officials say Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells — both 18 — were arrested Sunday. They remained in the Alachua County Jail on Monday morning and face felony charges of criminal mischief and firing into an occupied dwelling. A police report says a university officer went to Keys Residential housing on Friday night and saw three windows had been shattered.

SINKHOLE OPENS BENEATH FLORIDA HOME, NEIGHBORS EVACUATED

Pasco Fire Rescue responded to the Holiday neighborhood Monday afternoon. Chief Shawn Whited says they initially estimated the hole to be about 30 feet wide and 15 feet deep, but it was still growing. Firefighters evacuated the affected home, as well as four other surrounding houses. Whited says the structures will have to remain empty until an engineer can inspect the hole either later Monday or Tuesday.

BOY, GREAT-GRANDPARENTS DIE IN FLORIDA HOUSE FIRE

Polk County Sheriff’s officials say the fire broke out early Sunday morning. Authorities say 75-year-old Carolyn Ruff and Liam McLemore, who was visiting his great-grandparents, were taken to a hospital where they later died. The body of 82-year-old Walter Ruff was found inside the smoldering home.
