FAMILY OF DEAD MUSICIAN SUES OFFICER, DEPARTMENT
The father of Corey Jones filed the state lawsuit Wednesday against since-fired Officer Nouman Raja and the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department seeking unspecified damages. The lawsuit by Clinton Jones Sr. claims Raja used excessive force when he shot Jones on Oct. 18 and that the department failed to properly train him.

Adonis Losada learned his fate on Wednesday, several months after a Miami-Dade jury convicted him on 51 counts of possession of child porn images on his computer. Prosecutors say Losada met an undercover detective in a chat room called “Baby Toddler Love.” Investigators later found sexual photos of babies and toddlers that left jurors shaken during the trial.
FLORIDA MAY SPEND MILLIONS BATTLING STINKY ALGAE BLOOMS
Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced Wednesday that he’ll ask the Legislature to create a local/state grant program to aid homeowners who want to switch from septic tanks to central sewer systems. He’s also proposing setting aside money in 2017 to help communities around the Indian River Lagoon and Caloosahatchee River build new wastewater systems.
FLORIDA COURT SIDES AGAINST FORMER MIAMI CONGRESSMAN
The 1st District Court of Appeal on Wednesday rejected former U.S. Rep. David Rivera’s contention that he was denied due process by the Florida Commission on Ethics. Rivera, a former state legislator from Miami, served one term in the U.S. House. Rivera is accused of violating several state ethics laws. The commission recommended Rivera pay $16,500 in penalties and more than $41,000 in restitution.
GIRL INJURED BY DISCARDED FIREWORK DAY AFTER JULY 4
The Silver Springs Shores girl suffered burns to her hands and face Tuesday, a day after the Fourth of July. The girl’s mother told Marion County deputies that the girl found the firework on a neighbor’s property.
