Wreck snarls traffic on US 98

Camaro damage

Traffic on US 98 came to a crawl for more than three hours Wednesday afternoon, June 22, after a three-car accident left a semitrailer jack knifed across the westbound lanes.

The accident occurred at 4:51 p.m. when a Camaro driven by Brian Engle made an illegal left turn at the entrance to The Reserves apartment complex according to a highway patrol report.

Then Engle’s vehicle stuck the side of a Dodge Caravan driven by Olga Batova.

Batova’s vehicle was pushed sideways into the road causing the driver of the semitrailer, Walter Davis, to lockup his brakes before also striking the Caravan.

Davis jackknifed, blocking the west bound lanes. Highway patrol, Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office and multiple fire departments were dispatched to the scene. Traffic was redirected around the incident, but cars still backed up past visibility in both directions.

No serious injuries were reported, with Engle receiving minor injuries.

The report estimated $55,000 in damages to the three vehicles.
