Standoff in subdivision ends peacefully

A standoff  that lasted a little over two hours at a home on Village Parkway in the Midway area ended peacefully early Friday afternoon when an armed individual surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.

A woman reportedly fired several shots inside the home Friday morning, though no injuries were reported, and then barricaded herself inside the home. Officers from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol, along with SWAT team members, arrived  in the Quayside Village Subdivision quickly after a call was received around 10 a.m. A negotiator arrived on the scene as well and residents of the neighborhood were told to stay inside during the incident.

Sergeant Richard Aloy, the public information officer for the sheriff’s department, spoke to the media about an hour  into the standoff and said officers were handling the situation in a patient manner as only the shooter was inside the home. The individual was making threats to officers who were on the scene.

“Our activity is based on what they do. As long as nobody is in any immediate danger, time is on our side,” Alloy said. “There is no need to rush up there. We don’t want to do anything to put our guys at risk.”

At approximately 12:30 p.m. Aloy came out and notified media the standoff was over.

“She came out of the home and no one was hurt,” Aloy said. “We like it when it ends this way.”
