DEPUTY ARRESTED ON 29 CHILD SEX CHARGES

Authorities say 43-year-old Sgt. Kreg Costa of the Broward Sheriff’s Office was arrested Thursday and was being held without bail. Costa’s attorney said in a statement that he will be exonerated.

A Miramar police report released Thursday says 40-year-old Sophia Hines took a bed sheet and held it over the mouth of her 7-month-old son, St. Leo. The report says she then used the same bed sheet to cover the mouth of her 3-year-old daughter, Ariel.

STATE SENATOR GWEN MARGOLIS TO RETIRE AFTER 4 DECADES IN PUBLIC SERVICE

The 81-year-old announced her decision in an email to media Thursday. It came days after the Miami Herald reported she had dismissed her five opponents as “three Haitians, some teacher and some lawyer” during a meeting with local Democrats. Party leaders demanded an apology, but she has not done so.

FLORIDA LAWYERS ASK COURT NOT TO DISBAR THEM PERMANENTLY

Robert Adams and Adam Filthaut of Tampa are requesting disbarment with an opportunity for reinstatement in five years. Pinellas County Judge W. Douglas Baird recommended permanent disbarment. Stephen Diaco has already been permanently disbarred. Diaco, Adams and Filthaut are accused of violating Florida Bar rules by setting up opposing attorney Phil Campbell with the help of a paralegal and a Tampa police officer.

FLORIDA SUPREME COURT: FLORIDA TEEN WHO MURDERED RIVAL DESERVES NEW SENTENCE

Justices on Thursday unanimously ruled it’s unconstitutional to keep Laisha Landrum in prison with no chance at parole because she was 16 when she committed the crime in 2004. The court ordered resentencing of the Tampa woman.
