Business exceptional for teen’s paddleboard rentals

Sage Offutt is looking forward to getting back on the beach in Navarre this summer and reopening her highly successful paddleboard business, Sage Paddle Co., for the summer.

This will be the third year the polite and savvy Colorado teen will be running a business that took off like a tidal wave when she started it up in 2014. She expects this summer to be even busier.

“We have 50 boards and 20 kayaks and we will have two crews bringing the rentals out to the people on the beach,” Offutt said during a phone interview. People can call or use our app to reserve a time. We expect it to be pretty busy again after business really exploded last year.”

Paddleboards and kayaks can be rented for a half day ($50), full day ($80) or for even a week ($275) and Offutt said the rental comes with a 15-minute safety and instruction overview. A lesson is also provided for those who have never used a paddleboard before.

Her business has come a long way since its humble beginnings when she had only six boards available for rent. The number rose to 36 paddleboards and six kayaks last year.

“It really exploded last year. We were turning down people left and right because we were sold out every day,” Offutt said.

Offutt, who will be a sophomore in high school this fall despite being only 13, expects to start things up for the summer the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. And being well-established on the beach, generating business won’t be an issue.
