Bennett wins robotics camp scholarship

Haden Bennett didn’t think she would actually be awarded the Air Force Association’s U.S. Space and Rocket Center Camp scholarship when she applied for it earlier this spring.

Excitement consumed the Navarre High School freshman when she was selected as the winner.

“I was really happy and I squealed,” Bennett said with a laugh Friday afternoon. “I was so happy. I can’t believe I was the first and only one to get it.”

Bennett filled out an application and wrote a one-page narrative describing why she wanted to attend either the space camp, aviation challenge or robotics camp Huntsville, Ala.

Bennett’s interest was in robotics. She wasn’t supposed to find out if she won or not until Tuesday.

Her mother, Christie M. Bennett-Bowden, a technical sergeant in the Air Force, learned her daughter was the winner last week.
