Protest builds against new Sacred Heart annex

Sacred Heart Protest20160516_081031_resized_3Tiger Point residents’ protests over traffic safety concerns about the new Sacred Heart clinic under construction on Highway 98 are growing amid questions about the project’s engineering plans.

Sixteen picketers turned out on Monday morning at the Tiger Point Boulevard entrance to the five-acre construction site, which is located  just across two lanes from the entrance to the 63-house Oak Pointe subdivision.

“I cry every morning when I get up and look at this mess,” said Nancy Dohn, whose house is on the corner of Oak Pointe Drive and Tiger Point Boulevard.

A Sacred Heart spokesman said the project is properly permitted by Santa Rosa County and that traffic planners ruled against an alternative entrance to the medical facility. Area residents insist the entrance should be on Highway 98, rather than the narrow arterial road.
