Courthouse report submitted to commissioners

Conceptual design renderings have been released to the Board of County Commissioners in preparation for Monday’s BOCC Committee meeting.Courthouse rendering  The company responsible for the renderings, HOK, will present a report to the commissioners that includes renderings, timelines, construction details and a cost estimate.  The proposed center is slated to be a three-story building with 135,000 square feet.  The sticks and bricks of the building is estimated at just north of $36.8 million or $273 per square foot.  As stated in the report, the es
timate does not include the following:

  • Any non-competitive bid or restrictive contract conditions
  • Unforeseen or unknown conditions
  • Hazardous waste removal costs
  • Work beyond the boundaries of the property
  • Feasibility and financing costs
  • Owner administrative feescourthouse rendering 2
  • General Building Permit
  • Land acquisition and real estate fees
  • Professional design and consulting fees
  • Owner’s field inspection costs
  • Owner furnished items and owner move-in costs
  • Off-site work
  • Telephone and equipment and cabling costs
  • Items marked on plans at NIC
  • Furniture and Equipment
  • LEED design allowance
  • Pre-construction fees
  • Project management costs

The final cost is yet to be determined, but also on Monday’s agenda is discussion of the proposed Local Option Sales Tax ballot language.  The commissioners are seeking the 1-cent sales tax to fund building the courthouse along with other infrastructure projects.  They will need to make a June 1 deadline if they expect to have the LOST on the August ballot.
