Raiders to kick off regular season against Catholic

Although football season is still five months away, the 2016 schedule is already set for the Navarre Raiders.

Navarre, coming off a 10-1 campaign in which it won a district championship and spent most of the season ranked in the state, will begin the new year with a preseason classic game against Chiles on Aug. 18 in Tallahassee.

The regular season opens Aug. 26 with a road game against Pensacola Catholic and the home opener is set for Sept. 2 against Washington.

After a bye on Sept. 9, the Raiders hit the road  Sept. 16 for a game against Choctaw and return home a week later to take on Fort Walton Beach. Navarre then plays back-to-back road games, facing off against Pace Sept. 30 and playing at Escambia Oct. 7.

Navarre returns home Oct. 14 to take on Milton before playing its homecoming game against Lincoln Oct. 21. The Raiders close out the month of October against rival Gulf Breeze on Oct. 28 where they will be aiming for a 10th consecutive Beach Bowl trophy. Navarre wraps up the regular season Nov. 4 with a road game against Niceville.

The Raiders, who will be in their fifth season under head coach Jay Walls, were a playoff team a season ago, falling 23-22 to Tate in double overtime in the opening round. Walls is 38-11 in four seasons as the head coach.

Oct. 14 vs. Milton, 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 21 vs. Lincoln, 7 p.m. (Homecoming)

Oct. 28 vs. Gulf Breeze, 7:30 p.m.

Nov. 4 at Niceville, 7 p.m.
