Navarre baseball team picks up two more wins

Navarre played three games last week and came away with a 2-1 record. The Raiders thumped Escambia 10-2 and split a home-and-home series with Milton, winning 6-5 before falling 5-4.

Navarre  10, Escambia  2

Escambia took advantage of two first-inning errors and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. The Gators’ fortunes went downhill from that point forward in a March 1 game against Navarre.

The Raiders responded quickly in their half of the first. Tyler Rebber (3-4, 2 RBIs) drove in Octavien Moyer with a double to the fence in center. Matt Cronin (2-2) then picked up 2 RBIs when his drive up the middle plated Cyrus Grimes and Rebber.

The onslaught continued in the second when the Raiders racked up five runs.

Micah Daniel and Moyer crossed the plate when Grimes hit a shot to left center. Grimes ended up on third and trotted home on Rebber’s second hit in as many innings. Cade Taylor’***** to right brought in Rebber from second for the fourth run of the inning. Taylor then made it five when he scored on a Gator error to push the lead to 8-2.

Navarre added another run in the third when Moyer drove in Michael Sandle who had reached on a walk. They would pick up one more in the sixth when Cronin scored on a passed ball.

Junior Andre Macedo, who had made several relief appearances in earlier games, got his first varsity start, and recorded the victory. Macedo gave up just three hits and struck out six in his six innings of work. Brant Tolbert made his varsity debut in the seventh and sat the Gators down in order, the last on a strike out, to end the contest.
