Pier management and County compromise in finance dispute

‘Everything is squared for now’

After months of negotiation with the Navarre Beach Pier operators, Coastal Concession, and County Commissioners settled the dispute with the company agreeing to pay about $3,000 in back debt and run the facility at a higher tax rate.

Coastal and the county had been as far apart as $143,000, which the company previously asserted it should be reimbursed for maintenance and other expenses that fell outside the contract.

But at Thursday’s commission meeting the two sides came together on a fraction of that amount, with Commission Chairman Lane Lynchard saying “everything is squared” for now.

Still, the commissioners cautioned Coastal Concessions against being late on future monthly payments. The deal raised the company’s tax rate on revenue to 5 percent from 3.1 percent.
