Short signs with Olivet Nazarene

Brent Short played a big part in Navarre’s success on the football field.

The senior offensive lineman hopes to make an impact at the college level as well.

Short will get his chance to do it as he signed a national letter of intent Wednesday with Olivet Nazarene, an NAIA school in the Chicago area. The Tigers were 3-8 a year ago, including a 1-4 mark in the Mid-States Football Association.

“I really like the coach and I’ve known the offensive line coach for a while. They showed a lot of interest in me. I’m excited about taking my talents to the next level.”

Short was a three-year starter for the Raiders and played the center position his senior year. His efforts helped the Raiders churn out a little more than 4,000 yards, including more than 3,000 on the ground.

“He’s been a great leader for us and we are certainly proud of him,” Navarre head coach Jay Walls said. “He has worked really hard and his scholarship is worth over $25,000 a year. That’s special. He is going to a great university.”
