Food-insecurity among Santa Rosa County seniors

Food-insecurity, as defined by the United States Department of Agriculture, is “a household-level economic and social condition of limited or uncertain access to adequate food.”

While some citizens age 65 and over are healthy and independent, a good number of them rely on help from various food programs in order to supply simple, everyday meals. According to a study done in November of 2014 by AARP of adult Floridians, about 9.2 percent of seniors in the state age 65 and over could be classified as food-insecure.
