Raiders cap week with win over Jaguars

Marcus Richardson made his presence felt quickly in Friday night’s game against Central.

The Navarre senior scored 12 points in the opening quarter on a series of easy shots near the basket and helped set the tone for the Raiders in their 69-38 win over the Jaguars.

“My teammates always have my back and that allows me to come out confident to play my hardest and do my best,” Richardson said. “It felt good to play well.”

Richardson finished with 20 points and the Raiders won for the eighth time in the last 10 games. They improved to 14-7 overall.

“The guys have been playing with a lot of confidence since the break,” Navarre head coach Taf Bentley said. “Our guys have made up their minds that they want to come out and be ready to play from the beginning. You can see it in their body language and the way they are competing. I’m proud of them.”

Richardson said the success is fueled by the fact that he and his teammates want to make a mark as being one of the top basketball teams in school history.

“We’re trying to leave a legacy at Navarre,” said Richardson, one of seven seniors on the roster. “Everyone is focused and playing hard. We just keep working to get better.”

Navarre led 23-11 after one quarter and was ahead 32-18 at halftime. Richardson was the only player in double figures. Tre Baker scored nine points and Demetre Page added eight points.
