With the Presidential Preference Primary election coming up March 15, those not registered as Republicans or Democrats will be unable to vote in that type election which occurs every four years. This is because Florida is considered a closed-primary state said Tappie Villane, Santa Rosa County Supervisor of Elections.
There are 26,981 registered voters in Santa Rosa County who are not registered as Republicans or Democrats. This is significant because the “Other” category of minority party voters comprises 22 percent of the total active registered voters in Santa Rosa County.
Those minor parties are: America’s Party of Florida, Constitution Party of Florida, Ecology Party of Florida, Green Party of Florida, Independence Party of Florida, Independent Party of Florida, Party for Socialism and Liberation – Florida, Libertarian Party of Florida and the Reform Party of Florida. None of which will be able to vote in the March 15 election unless they change their party affiliation and register as Republicans or Democrats.
