Raiders crush Patriots on senior night

The Navarre boys soccer team returned from the Christmas break a day before classes resumed and demolished county rival Pace 8-0 Monday night.

Prior to the game, the senior players were recognized for their contributions to the Raider soccer program. They then proceeded to go out and put on a show on the field.

Senior Bailey Bridges got the Raiders on the board just two minutes into the game when he took a pass from senior Jonah Cruz and made good on the shot from about 20 yards out.

Senior defender Nate Schroeder joined in on the attack, and with 16:27 left in the half, he found the back of the net to give Navarre a 2-0 lead.

Had it not been for multiple great saves by the Patriot keeper, Navarre might have ended the game by halftime.

The relentless pressure paid off with just over two minutes left in the first frame. Goalie Zack Gonzales booted a long kick that went over the head of the last Pace defender. Zach Shealey collected the ball on a run and went in for the score to make it 3-0.

In the second half, Coach Zac Preston was able to substitute freely and put players in positions they normally do not play. Schroeder picked up his second goal when he took a pass from senior Malone Doughty, got behind the defenders, and scored from about 25 yards out.
