Taking the “plunge” on New Year’s Day is a tradition just like eating black-eyed peas and collard greens. In Navarre, there are two opportunities this year to ring in the New Year with a rush to the nervous system by swimming in chilly waters.
The first plunge of the day is the inaugural Pelican Plunge in the Gulf of Mexico near the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier and will benefit Bright Skies Foundation.
The second plunge of the day will occur at 1:30 p.m. across the street behind Juana’s Pagodas and Sailors’ Grill. This is the seventh year for the Penguin Plunge and has become a tradition for many in Navarre. This event benefits Fisher House of the Emerald Coast, Inc. which is located on Eglin Air Force Base.
