Florida governor gives state workers Christmas Eve off

This is the third time Scott has given state workers Christmas Eve off. Last year, employees had the day after Christmas off. In 2011 state employees received Dec. 23 off since Christmas Eve fell on a weekend.

ORLANDO MAGIC PLEDGE $1.5 MILLION TO UCF DOWNTOWN CAMPUS

The team announced the pledge Monday that will go toward a new academic building and be the centerpiece of a downtown Orlando campus serving about 7,000 UCF and Valencia College students.

DOZENS FLEE AS DOG FIGHT BROKEN UP IN RURAL FLORIDA

Deputies were called to a wooded area in western Putnam County late Saturday after people heard barking and loud noises in the area. Officials say two wounded dogs were found in an arena constructed of wood. They were among 19 dogs found.

FLORIDA MAN FACES 5 YEARS IN PRISON FOR IVORY TRAFFICKING

Raymond J. Reppert Jr. pleaded guilty Monday to illegally mislabeling ivory as resin or wood carvings on shipping documents. Reppert faces sentencing Feb. 25 before Miami U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams. He also faces up $250,000 in fines.

MAN CONVICTED IN 1996 HIJACKING SENT BACK TO LEBANON

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said in a news release that officers took 47-year-old Saado Mohamed Ibrahim on Sunday from Jacksonville to Beirut, Lebanon, where he was handed over to officials. He served his sentence in a federal prison in central Florida.
