AFTER JUDGE THREATENS TO FIGHT ATTORNEY, FLORIDA SUPREME COURT ORDERS HIM REMOVED

Brevard County Circuit Judge John Murphy got into an argument last year with now-former assistant public defender Andrew Weinstock over whether a defendant could have a speedy trial. The judge at one point said, “If you want to fight, let’s go out back.” The two men left the courtroom and Murphy was accused of hitting the man. He denied striking Weinstock.

COLLEGE MOVES TO FIRE PROFESSOR WHO QUESTIONED SANDY HOOK

Florida Atlantic University said in a release on its website that School of Communication and Multimedia Studies professor James Tracy was served a notice of termination Wednesday. The university said Tracy has 10 days to respond.

WOMAN, 2 DOGS KILLED IN MOBILE HOME FIRE

Port Orange Fire Marshal Chris Weir says firefighters responded to the home late Wednesday night. They contained the blaze within 10 minutes but had to wait until the house was ventilated and hot spots were put out before they could go inside and try to find the victim.

MAN DEAD AFTER REAR-ENDING SCHOOL BUS

Clearwater police report in a news release that the crash occurred Thursday morning. Officials say one bus stopped to pick up students, a second bus stopped behind the first and then the man driving a Mini Cooper ran into the back of the second bus.

FLORIDA SUPREME COURT RULES IN FAVOR OF MEDICAL MARIJUANA BALLOT MEASURE

The seven justices ruled Thursday that the petition and summary satisfy the legal requirements of the Florida Constitution. The remaining hurdle to getting it placed on the ballot is getting enough valid signatures.
