Santa Rosa County has received notice that the contractor for the processing and removing of recyclable materials collected by all haulers in the franchised areas has used their option to discontinue this agreement because of the impacts of a viable regional market for recyclable materials.
This means service interruption for Santa Rosa County residents in solid waste franchise areas in the north and south end of the county.
The recycling stoppage is expected to last four to six months. Residents can continue to put their recycle can out at the road, but it will be mixed with regular trash. The recycling containers at the Central Landfill and Jay Collection Center will also be removed on Jan. 4 until further notice.
In a statement released by Santa Rosa County, it conveyed that the commission understands the inconvenience this places on residents and their strong desire to have an active recycling program in our county so the process is underway to find an alternative. They encourage residents to continue to place recyclable materials out for collection as directed by their garbage service provider.
