Taylor signs with Argonauts

Callan Taylor is excited about the opportunity to play college softball, especially being able to play close to home. The Navarre senior signed her national letter of intent with the University of West Florida Friday afternoon.

“I’m really thankful and blessed I get this opportunity,” Taylor said. “I grew up playing softball around here and I’m thankful I get to play close to home so my parents and friends can come watch me play.”

Taylor, who has played varsity softball at Navarre since her freshman year, said she was also sold on what the Argonauts have to offer.

West Florida, which competes in the Gulf South Conference, was 19-30 last season under first-year head coach Melissa Paul. But the Argos, who had had only six seniors on the roster in 2015, have a great deal of potential and a history of success.

“I really like Coach Paul. She is a great coach,” Taylor said. “I also know a few players on the team who played around here (including former Navarre standout Emily Pettigrew). I also love their softball facilities and it’s a great school.”
